New Mexico Senators Sue Wilson Beffort and Jerry Ortiz y Pino will discuss their expectations for the 2014 legislative session at the Jan. 13 lunch meeting of Albuquerque Press Women at 11:45 a.m. at the MCM Elegante (2020 Menaul NE).
Beffort is the ranking republican member of the powerful Legislative Finance Committee. The committee reviews state agencies and public entities throughout the year and constructs one version of the state budget. Beffort will discuss some of the forces that have affected budget planning for the year.
Ortiz y Pino represents the southwest portion of the city of Albuquerque and is extremely active in both budget and social issues. The legislative session is limited by law this year to budget issues and such other issues as the governor may decide to place on the call to the legislative session. One of the issues is likely to be the question of whether undocumented immigrants should continue to be eligible to apply for driver’s licenses in New Mexico. Ortiz y Pino will discuss that and other issues.
Please make your reservation by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org Cost of the lunch is $15 for members and $21 for non-members. Please note any special meal requirements at the time of the reservation.
