Fred Nathan, the Executive Director of Think New Mexico, a Santa Fe-based think tank, will be the guest speaker at the Monday, December 8 meeting of the Albuquerque Press Women.
Fred Nathan’s talk will focus on Think New Mexico’s new public policy initiative to make health care more affordable in New Mexico by increasing transparency and ending price discrimination. The costs and quality of common medical procedures vary dramatically from hospital to hospital in New Mexico. Yet it is currently easier for New Mexicans to find information about the price and quality for a household appliance than for a medical procedure. Think New Mexico is recommending that the state create a user-friendly public website that would disclose hospital price and quality information for common medical procedures, similar to those in 14 other states.
