Albuquerque Press Women will hear from two of the largest local publishers about what they want to see in a manuscript at our regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 11 at 11:45 a.m. at the MCM Elegante Hotel at 2020 Menaul NE.

Barbe Awalt, publisher and managing editor of LPD Press and John Byram from UNM Press will discuss the good and the bad they see when authors hand in work. If you have ever wondered what a publisher things when he or she sees a draft? Here’s the perfect opportunity to ask.

Awalt and Paul Rhetts started LPS Press in 1984 and have published dozens of books since. In 2006, they launched Rio Grande books as a new imprint to provide an avenue for books of a more regional nature covering the entire Southwest. Awalt and Rhetts have written two dozen books, many of them on the arts and culture of the Southwest.

UNM Press is affiliated with the University of New Mexico but is not supported financially by the university. It functions as an enterprise entity and is supported by book sales and donations. The press publishes a wide variety of books, from fiction to memoirs to research.
