Former Albuquerque Public Schools Interim Superintendent Brad Winters and former Albuquerque School Board Chairman Martin Esquivel will discuss the things that public boards must think about when they prepare to undo a poor personnel decision on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 11:45 at the MCM Elegante (2020 Menaul NE)
It sounds like the straightforward task to hire a new superintendent of schools. A search is launched, a short list of candidates are interviewed, and a superintendent is selected. But what happens when the new hire immediately runs into problems? Albuquerque Public School Superintendent Luis Valentino was on the job only about a month before public questions about his judgement and management skills drove him from office. His previously made commitment to speak to Albuquerque Press Women could not be fulfilled because of his abrupt departure.
But what happens now? How does the Albuquerque School Board move forward after this serious problem? Winter and Esquivel, both veterans who have dealt with turbulence in the Albuquerque Public Schools will discuss what board members must consider as they try to regroup and find a way to keep the public schools on track to serve students .
